Product Description

About This Art Piece.     November 5th 2011

This beautiful creation was the combined efforts in design by both Mr. Martin Elia and Lawrence  Farber. Mr. Elia conceived of an idea to celebrate his 25th wedding anniversary in February of  2011. He asked me to design a piece that took the beauty of the red rocks of Sedona Arizona  as well as the delicate specialty of the use of sapphires (Gail’s birthstone) and rubies (Marty’s  birthstone). The rubies and sapphires on this tree which represent the leaves of the tree came  from India, and were cut specifically for the tree. The bases of the tree are represented by the  use of amber and petrified wood, both of which are unique in themselves and took millions of  years to form. They too were handpicked by Mr. Elia.

Other semi precious stones were also used for leaves such as citrine which is a type of quartz  that has gold flecks in it and petrified wood to give variability to the leaves on the trees. The  display base came from red cedar which was milled in Missouri and custom made for the piece. The Rotating base was then  brought to another craftsman in Black Mountain, North Carolina  where a special plaque of solid sterling silver to represent a sterling anniversary was made by a  jeweler  and then engraved by laser at yet another Black mountain NC craftsman. The art was then
laser signed by myself.

Mr. Elia then asked to have 3 birds custom made to represent their pets and these birds were  custom made by Peter Muller a world renowned custom semiprecious gem  carver in Brazil.  The nests were found in Iowa and were speckled with rubies and sapphires and fresh water  pearls were used to represent the eggs of these special birds.

Finally the piece was assembled .I have never made a custom piece with such specific  detailed requests as Mr. Elia has asked for. I can only appreciate the love Mr. Elia has for his  wife to be this detail oriented. It has taken over 282 email communications, computer pictures,  digital photos, faxes, invoices, conversations, beside the intricate labor to create this piece.  Materials have been exported from 3 continents for the piece. Only the finest of craftsmen have  been involved in the piece and I have learned from Mr. Elia that the impossible can be possible  with enough patience and endurance. This piece which was to take 2 months to complete took  more than 8 months due to the importance of every detail being achieved by Mr. Elia. I hope this  art brings both Marty and Gail many years of joy.

Sincerely, Lawrence Farber
